Aggression or Reactivity?

When dogs become stressed they instinctively rely on their Flight, Fight, or Freeze responses. Now depending on the level of stressors, environment, and the dog’s genetic background will determine the dog’s choices. 85% of dogs that choose to respond aggressively when encountering stressful situations are fear based. Dogs are watch and learners, and will act accordingly to avoid conflict. Showing teeth, growling and lunging are all warning signals the dog is uncomfortable. Dogs whose signals are ignored will escalate to biting due to their previous failed attempts to remove the stressor. This can be caused by unwelcome interactions from strange dogs, people and a lack of awareness from their owners.

20% of dogs that respond aggressively usually are genetically defensive, Guardian or Shepard breeds. Yes, even mix breeds & bull breeds with strong genetics can have naturally protective instincts. Without proper guidance, this can become a liability.

80% of dogs are reactive due to conditioning, weather its by the owner or environmental stressors. But the far majority are due to bad breeding practices causing the dog to generally have weak nerves. These dogs become uncomfortable easily, and regularly overreact to stressors.

I will never turn anyone or their dog away if they’re seeking help. Reducing the amount of reactions will aid in a healthier mindset for the dog.

Aggression is not a personality trait. Aggression is a emotional response.

Please note that all cases of aggression vary. If you are planning on moving forward with scheduling a consultation, A muzzle must be present. Cost will be determined during the consultation appointment & after receiving a full assessment.
